Eight couples appeared on the petanque pitch this morning so that made it easy to divide into our usual teams of Ladies and Gents.   

Ladies pitched first but it was the Gents who took the first three ends but only by a single point on each.    The Ladies then retaliated with a point but the gents ploughed on scoring a one, a one and a three before their opponents gained a further point.

Gents then excelled themselves with a four bringing their score to twelve and needing one more point to win the game which they managed to score on the next end.     

Hard luck Ladies though there were moments when I thought they would break through.    Our next game was due on Bank Holiday Monday but most of us are otherwise engaged and so rescheduled for 14th September.    I can’t believe that September is only a fortnight away.

Not many weeks to go now until the end of our season so if you’re tempted to give it a go this year come and muck in then.    It’s a lighthearted morning.
